Sustainable stays in Bruges, in a way that feels right
At B&B Royal Swans, sustainability is not an extra layer,
but something that has been part of the house from the very beginning —
from the renovation to the way we work every day.
At B&B Royal Swans, sustainability is not a separate story or just a green label,
but a way of working that has become part of who we are.
From the renovation to the choices we make every day, we try to keep our impact as small as possible — without compromising the comfort and peace of your stay.
No big words, just a house that feels right in the way it was built and the way it is cared for.
OUR APPROACH
Circular building and reuse
During the renovation, we consciously chose to give as many materials as possible a second life.
Old doors from monasteries and castles, materials from other buildings, and furniture that might otherwise have been lost were given a new place here. What we could not use ourselves was passed on.
This is how a house with its own character came to life, where many elements carry a story of their own.
Energy and water, used consciously
We try to limit our use of energy and water wherever possible, without affecting the comfort of your stay.
- LED lighting and energy-efficient installations
- rainwater used for sanitary facilities and plants
- water-saving taps and showers
- solar panels and green energy
They are not always visible, but they are choices that make a difference every day.
Breakfast without waste
We consciously choose not to offer a buffet, but an à la carte breakfast.
This allows us to prepare only what is actually chosen and avoid unnecessary food waste.
We work with fresh daily products, as much as possible from local short supply chains, complemented by homemade preparations and fresh products from our hens.
A quiet start to the day, at your own pace.
Reducing waste and encouraging reuse
We try to avoid and reduce waste as much as possible.
- no disposable products
- sorting and reuse wherever possible
- working with bulk products
- no disposable slippers
- encouraging reusable water bottles
- food leftovers go to our hens or to the compost whenever possible.
Whatever is left, is given a second purpose whenever possible.
Care for the surroundings and biodiversity
We make conscious choices outdoors as well.
The planting on our terraces and in the garden is focused on biodiversity, with plants that attract bees, butterflies and birds.
We avoid pesticides and use rainwater wherever possible.
Sustainable ways to get around
We encourage sustainable mobility.
The B&B is within walking distance of the city centre and easily reachable by train and bus.
Cycling in and around Bruges is easy, and we provide safe bicycle storage.
By exchanging ideas and learning from each other, we continue to refine our approach — step by step.
Collaboration & inspiration
We are an ambassador of the Reizen naar Morgen network and signed its charter together with Tales & Trails.
This network brings together people who share a similar vision of tourism — with respect for the place, the people who live there, and the guests who stay there.
For us, it is not an extra label, but a confirmation of the way we work every day.
That vision translates here into a peaceful, small-scale place where you can experience Bruges at your own pace.
At B&B Royal Swans, respect is at the heart of everything we do
Respect for …
… our precious planet
… the biodiversity around us
… our rich history
… and above all
… respect for one another
Many of these choices are not immediately visible,
but you can feel them in the way you stay here.
Peace, simplicity and attention are present in every detail here.
We keep looking for ways to do better, step by step.
For us, sustainability is not an end point, but a way of working that continues to evolve.
Our approach at a glance
